Using the Online Prescription Requesting Service

If you would like to request your prescriptions online, please sign up at the surgery in order to obtain your username and password. We require 2 forms of ID, one of  which must be photo ID. The other must contain your address (e.g. passport, driving licence, utility bill, bank statement). You will also be require to sign a disclaimer at the time of application.

Once you have done this, you will also be able to request medicatino through the NHS app on your smartscreen device.

Repeat Prescriptions

We encourage you to order your medication online. You can also order by dropping your request into the box at the Surgery, or via post. If you are ordering by post please ensure you enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Please note that when making prescription requests, our Practice policy is that all medication requests must be submitted with 72 working hours' notice.

We no longer have the capacity to accept urgent prescription requests and are unable to process request submitted with less than 72 hours notice. Please bear this in mind when ordering medication as it is your responsibility to make sure that you do not run out of medication due to a late request.

When making a request, please be aware that we are closed on Thursday afternoons, weekends and Bank Holidays.

Repeat Dispensing

If you have been taking regular medication for some time you may be suitable to have your prescription set up on repeat dispensing system. This would enable you to have a number of repeat prescriptions held at the chemist of your choice and you could obtain these directly from the pharmacist until your next medication review is due.

Prescription Fees

Prescription charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a Prscription Prepayment certificate.

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.
